This item is a file folder containing the following: - approximately 15 original typed, and very insightful letters by Ed Rice (hand signed by Rice) - many making direct reference to his friend Thomas Merton. Letters are dated between 1974 and 1989 and most approximately 1 page in length. In one letter called Merton a "mystical iceberg; we only see the tip". - numerous copies of the letters of John Staney who corresponded with Rice over this time. This item was received, with deepest gratitude, from John Stanley. Stanley was a monk at Gethsemani for a short time while Merton was also there, and spent much of his life researching and writing about Merton, his friends and his family.
